Social Activities

Joe Onativia has been organizing trips for St. Catharine's parishioners for 20 years. In that time, he has arranged over 200 trips to Broadway Shows, Westchester Dinner Theatre, Elmwood Theatre in Nyack, Restaurants on Arthur Avenue, Little Italy, Chinatown, Baseball Games, Army Football Games, Sight & Sound Theatre, the Botanical Gardens, Tours of New York City, Brooklyn, Bronx, and numerous other places! Joe is one of the nicest, most dedicated, and hardest-working people you'll ever meet. We are blessed to have you in our Parish, Joe! Thank you, and God bless you!

Joe's Reviews are almost as much fun as his trips! Here's Joe's Reviews of the West Point Army Football Game on September 30 and the Horseman's Hollow and the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze on October 6.

"On September 30, we went up to West Point to see Army vs. the University of El Paso. We had 34 people on board the bus. We left Blauvelt at 10:30 AM and arrived at 11:30 AM. There was no traffic because it was a Jewish holiday. Not even a little rain stopped us from having a great tailgate. We had Italian and American heroes. We had a delicious pasta salad from Lulu's Cafe in West Nyack. Lulu's pasta was the big hit. A very big "thank you" to Debbie Sansone, owner of Lulu's Cafe! She is always very generous to St. Catharine's Parish! We also had beer, wine, water, and soda. We took the shuttle bus from our parking spot to Michie Stadium. We were treated to a great game with Army winning the game. The game started at 3:30 PM. It got a little chilly up there. Most of the action was down where we sat. Overall, it was a fun day with a lot of good people.

On Friday night, October 6, we went to Sleepy Hollow and Croton-on-Hudson for the Horseman's Hollow and The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze. We had 46 people on the bus. Everybody was anxious on the bus to see how the Horseman's Hollow would be and also The Blaze. Our first stop was to the Horseman's Hollow where we walked on a haunted trail. This was a long walk to the Haunted House where we were going to meet some ugly creatures, spider webs, dead bodies (human and otherwise). The place gives you the creeps! You never knew when one of the inhabitants was going to jump out at you. I heard plenty of screams from the people on our bus. I told them on the bus on the way to Sleep Hollow that if they really got scared, they should tell them they want to leave and that they were only actors playing the roles in the Haunted House and they said I spoiled the trip for them! We saw the Headless Horseman on his horse. They warn you that it is not suitable for people who had heart conditions or respiratory problems or are claustrophobic. There was an ambulance waiting at the end in case of any problems! Our next stop was to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze which I found to be the best part of the trip. I can see why it is "sold out" every weekend. This was more of a family place where you could bring your children. I definitely would go back there again! They had over 7,000 illuminated Jack O'Lanterns. We saw a Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, a Carousel, Circus Train, Snakes, Dragons and, again, even the Headless Horseman! I don't know how the Headless Horseman got over to the Blaze so fast from Sleepy Hollow!! He probably was on a horse and didn't get stuck in traffic as we did on the bus!! All of the things I mentioned were carved out of pumpkins. They did a great job!! I give this place Four Stars ****. I recommend going there. We topped off the trip with a Craft Beer at the St. Lawrence tent. Of course, it was Pumpkin Beer! Lots of fun on this trip!!"
